Our Office on Nicollet Mall!
It’s been about a year since we moved into our new office space! The name of our building is now Andrus, as it is in the process of being renamed and renovated. When we chose the building we knew it would undergo a renovation, and they have just announced their plans. If you are interested you can read more about our new building in the Star Tribune article here.
We have really enjoyed our space, and the great location on Nicollet Mall! For those of you who haven’t been able to visit the space, we thought we would share a few highlights from our project last year.
As we looked to build a new space, together my Dad and I wanted to create a space that we felt reflected our values and would become a comfortable gathering point for our client meetings and small group seminars/events. When we designed our space we knew we wanted a space that would be open and airy, yet still quiet and confidential for our meetings This steered us towards choosing solid wood doors and drop ceilings in some of the offices. As much as I personally wanted to leave the ceiling exposed and use all glass doors, after more research, I realized that this would be too noisy for the space. More importantly it would not have provided the privacy required for our meetings.
We looked everywhere in central Minneapolis and St. Paul. We thought Northloop might be fun, or an easy office off the highway, or a new development in St. Paul or Northeast Minneapolis. After months of looking we ended up finding a great boutique office on Nicollet Mall, only a few blocks from where my father first started his practice. We love the feel, energy, and location that Nicollet Mall downtown provides.
We wanted to create a bright modern space that would bring in lots of natural light and eco-conscious. We worked with local designers Barb and Maria at https://www.studiobstyle.com to help us get the details right. I wanted to highlight a few of our favorite pieces for the space:
Burano: Bianco Valetta, Matte, 12”x24” Interceramic Tile – This was an easy choice. Interceramic tile is well made and environmentally conscious.
French Grey Oak Looselay Longboard flooring from Karndean Design Flooring – I really like this particular line by Karndean Design Flooring because it had good acoustic credentials, and great environmental certifications. I have to say it looks even better in the space than I would have expected.
Modern Edit Shaw Carpet – Choosing the right carpet for the conference space took a little longer because there were so many different directions we could have taken. We decided on a gray color Shaw Carpet from their Modern Edit line. It has a great feel, and very natural design. Overall we wanted to choose items that we felt would bring some nature into our space.
Sherwin William ProMar 200 Zero VOC Line – At Barb’s recommendation, we chose a blue Quietude Color for the accent Walls, with their Incredible White for the majority of the walls in the space.
HeartFelt Hunter Douglas – Finally, and certainly not least, we chose our ceilings. We really wanted to incorporate something different than a traditional drop ceiling, so we decided on a truly amazing new product (at the time it had just been released) made out of Felt from Hunter Douglas. Their Heartfelt line is modular felt panels that run along the ceiling. They come in beautiful shades of gray, you’ll notice them in our picture. Felt is great because it dampens the sound and is free of chemicals that often affect indoor air quality.
We are really pleased with how it came together, and excited to continue sharing our office with you!
Best,
Kerry
